"Pantheon", Rome

To days oil painting as been previously painted in watercolour, which is shown in an earlier post.
I used that watercolour has reference rather than my original photo.
I think it helps me to eliminate the detail and simplify the composition.
Painted on a 9" x 11" prepared mdf board, using W+N Griffin, Alkyd quick drying paint.

Check mate

A 15" x 11" watercolour painted from one of my holiday snaps. Capturing the moment would be impossible without my trusty digi camera.
Some purist might frown.
What the heck!

" Sunlight at Pantheon " Rome

The composition may be familiar as I have painted this scene before but in a larger size.
This exercise was painted on 11" x 15" Arches 140lb paper. Sometimes painting down size can assist in a more fluid appearance, but fiddling can be a temptation. I hope you like this one.

Something different

It is some while since posting on my blog. Facebook seems to take up more of my social networking time these days. Perhaps I have caught the dreaded bug.

On occasion I like to paint life studies which I find good discipline. I hope to include a small selection in my next postings. In the mean time I hope you find these burlesque ladies interesting.

Back street cafe "Rome"

Some of my November solo exhibition paintings were inspired by my recent trip to Rome.
I gained much inspiration from the location which fueled an addiction to the subject matter. I feel I am burning out of ideas now, so I am looking for new locations to rekindle my fix (perhaps Barcelona next).
So much to see and so much to do...what a dilemma.

A trip to Rome

This week I took a trip to Rome to obtain references for my next exhibition in November, taking in as many sights as possible and collecting almost 250 photographs. Whilst there I managed to paint four plein air watercolours. The trip exceeded all my expectations and as given me much inspiration, which I desperately need.
What a wonderful place to visit.

"Feed the birds, Tupence a bag"

A challenging composition but one I relish.
Of course I have used one of my own photos to capture the moment.
I would not dare attempt this composition without a reference.
I have tried to capture the panic of the young woman has she shares the bird food with these venetian pigeons.
Not exactly Mary Poppins is it?
More like Alfred Hitchcocks "The Birds".

Venice

I must admit that I do enjoy painting Venice.
Though perhaps my blog has too many venice scenes.
It is the easy solution for me to choose Venice to paint today, although I do wonder if I am in my comfort zone to much.
Each day inspiration is my biggest hurdle (what shall I paint today).
I am sure that is the same for everybody.
